We Rock – Thoughts on Dio
June 2nd, 2010
Ronnie James Dio
This is the first opportunity I’ve had since the death of Dio to write a blog entry, so there is no other way to begin this.
Ronnie James Dio was one of metal’s greatest icons, performers and pioneers. I had the great pleasure of being introduced to Dio by Travis Gamelin, a great friend of mine responsible for most things metal in my collection. I was also fortunate to see Dio at the House of Blues here in Orlando several years back. If you take a look at the career this man had and the obstacles he overcame, you’ll also see he’s a lot more than just a Tenacious D song; he was the only one that could take Sabbath to an entire new level post-Ozzy, rock right next to Ritchie Blackmore in Rainbow and have an fantastic solo career as well. He has inspired us all to understand how much “We Rock”, and to never second guess the use of a sword in a music video.
The Philosopher-King of Rock will be missed, but his music will keep us entertained well beyond his death.
